About the Opportunity:

Working from our Saskatoon head office, under the direction of the President and CEO, the Chief Technology Officer is our Product Evangelist leading the integration, enhancement and development of next-generation Intelligent Transportation Solutions (ITS).  Managing our research and development, product management, IT and possibly project engineering teams, you ensure our projects, products and solutions meet the needs of both external and internal customers.  In addition, working with our sales and operations teams, the CTO incorporates market intelligence into our product and solution development efforts resulting in leading-edge solutions that expand IRD’s position as a leading ITS provider.

What you’ll do:

Technical Vision & Strategy

  • Participate in developing corporate strategy, particularly, but not exclusively, from a technology perspective and in alignment with IRD’s core vision, mission and values.
  • Proactively establish excellent working relationships with all key customer and partner facing leaders to gather insight into customer and partner needs.
  • Oversee development and execution of product roadmaps and coordinate the appropriate prioritization of R&D initiatives, in consultation with other stakeholders.
  • Evaluate potential technology acquisitions from emerging and competitive technologies.
  • As our Product Evangelist, present technology strategy and technical capabilities to staff, customers, and other stakeholders and position IRD as an industry leader through active participation in industry forums, associations and consortiums.

Technology Management

  • Accountable for IRD’s internal and customer facing technology environments, software and hardware development processes, technology architecture, and the development of our core IP.
  • Development, monitoring and control of departmental budgets in alignment with the annual business plan.
  • Management of product and software development life cycle including optimizing development processes and tools.
  • Utilization of leading product development practices including identification and incorporation of customer operational and compliance requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance performance and profitability through the adoption of new and emerging technologies.
  • Ensure effective software development and project management methodologies are implemented for managing development schedules, quality control, and documentation.
  • Provide leadership oversight of cloud services, data center and network operations, and architecture – prioritizing scalability, performance and security while monitoring and maintaining quality control.
  • Accountability for corporate and customer information security, risk management and compliance.
  • Develop and implement key performance metrics to determine needed technology improvements, as well manage 24/7 uptime operations for production and application development environments.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Provide overall leadership for product development, software engineering, hardware engineering, and information technology teams
  • Coaching and mentorship of technical leaders throughout all technical departments
  • Leverage and enhance a culture of innovation, performance and high-quality product development.
  • Increase productivity and collaboration, delivering key projects on time despite challenging deadlines.
  • Build and inspire a team, generating a strong sense of pride, urgency and willingness to work towards ambitious goals.
  • Provide guidance to technical teams in our subsidiary operations to ensure their products and solutions take advantage of solutions developed for other customers around the world

Who you are:

  • Minimum of 8+ years in previous senior leadership positions which may include; Director or VP Technology, Product Development or R&D
  • Experience in developing and supporting:
    • Commercial software, firmware and hardware products.
    • Big data, web-based technologies.
    • Cloud based platforms.
  • Proven ability to lead a high-performance organization that successfully:
    • Delivers and deploys highly complex enterprise solutions.
    • Supports and maintains customer platforms and applications.
    • Maintains a 24x7x365 production environment.
  • Experienced in SDLC process and management concepts including:
    • Utilizing and implementing development methodologies (i.e. Agile).
    • The use of metrics to develop strategies for improving the product and software development lifecycle.
    • Accurately estimating resources needed for projects.
  • Creating metrics and continuous learning processes that improve workflow and productivity.
