PIC Pre-Clearance Program
IRD has a multi-site contract with the Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation Department for the design, supply and installation of pre-clearance equipment, and data hosting services in the province of Alberta.
IRD supplied and installed 16 systems in 12 locations across the province.
The equipment consists of radio frequency identification (RFID) equipment to allow vehicles enrolled in the provincial Partners in Compliance (PIC) program to bypass weighstations. Under the voluntary program, qualifying PIC carriers elect to have trucks carry an electronic identification transponder. This transponder issues a "green light" to the trucks qualified to bypass the weigh stations, saving them time and money by not having to stop.
IRD manages an on-line data system that is run by the Province and PIC organization for management of credentials of vehicles enrolled in the program.
