Project Description: The Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Office of Infrastructure Research and Development administers the nation’s Long Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) program in cooperation with, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), the National Academy of Science, and the State Highway Agencies.

The primary goal of the LTPP program is to extend pavement life at a reasonable cost.

Pavement test sites have been constructed throughout the U.S.A. and Canada.

IRD was selected as the Phase II contractor to supply, install, and maintain a number of research quality traffic and weigh in motion data collection sites across the U.S.A. and Canada. Under the contract, IRD assess the suitability of proposed sites, develops the installation plan, including the selection of the WIM System, and calibrates, operates, and verifies the performance of the WIM systems over a five (5) year period.

The LTPP SPS Traffic Pooled Fund Study is a two-phase project. Phase I is represented by a separate contract and consists of assessing, evaluating, and calibrating WIM and Vehicle Classification Systems.
