Project Description: In 2002, IRD supplied an integrated Slow Speed WIM screening system to the Administración General de Aduanas in Manzanillo, Mexico through a partnership with Administración Portuaria Integral (API) de Manzanillo. These systems are used to fulfill the mandatory importer weight declaration for imported merchandise. The integrated system identifies trucks, weighs their cargo and verifies the right of the vehicle to carry this cargo.
The system includes a single lane of Inductive Loop – SSWIM Scale – DYNAX Axle Sensor – Inductive Loop at the entrance of the port terminal to weigh trucks. A camera system located near the entrance operator booth captures the images of the trucks.
The main system components include: Slow-Speed-Weigh-In-Motion (SSWIM), SSWIM Electronics, Ticket System, and Camera System.
IRD provided all of the equipment and supervised the installation of the system which included video capability and matches vehicles using a ticket dispenser and a ticker reader. SSWIM scales were installed near one (1) entrance booth and one (1) exit booth at the Manzanillo Port of Entry. These scales are controlled by electronics located near the scales and are connected by a fibre optic cable.
