Project Description: Since 1997, IRD has been contracted to design, supply, and integrate four mainline and ramp WIM sorting systems in the State of Nebraska. Each system utilizes dual screening, wherein the operator has the ability to choose between sorting based on credential compliance or weight compliance.
The systems automatically weigh and classify all vehicles traveling in the right hand lane of the highway. The WIM systems use this vehicle data to determine if commercial vehicles are eligible to bypass the stations. The data collected on vehicles traveling in either the left or right lane is also stored by the WIM system and is available for generating various statistical reports.
The systems are mainline sorting systems with signs and a pre-pass interface. Enforcement camera systems and tracking systems are also included. Each time a vehicle is sorted to report to the weigh station, a camera is used to obtain a still image of that vehicle. The video displays show as a minimum the last four (4) vehicles that have been directed to report. The systems allow the operator to recall and print any of the last 256 vehicles. The systems are capable of weight enforcement, data collection and traffic management.
