Project Description: This project consists of two (2) complete design-build-maintain turnkey WIM systems on Route #2. Deerwood is southeast of Fredericton and Salisbury is southwest of Moncton. IRD provided all required elements of a one (1) lane mainline high-speed WIM system in the driving lane, tracking sensors in the left lane and a video system for enforcement purposes.

The mainline system sorts violating vehicles into the weigh station based on allowable weight limits for the Province of New Brunswick. The sorting decision is conveyed to the driver via the bilingual Changeable Message Signs controlled through the IRD lane control system (LCS). The system triggers the enforcement control system (ECS) camera(s) to freeze an image of the violating vehicle license plate as it crosses the mainline WIM sensors. As the sort decision for the target vehicle is displayed at the CMS, a second camera will capture a side image of the vehicle. The images are displayed at the operator’s workstation in the weigh station. The target vehicle is tracked to the gore where vehicles that are running scale cause an alarm in the scale house to sound.
