Toll Systems

IRD is a leader and innovator in the supply of automated toll collection systems for highway authorities around the world. For many of these projects IRD is responsible for the complete design, integration, installation, and commissioning of the entire system. For other projects, IRD has provided components to be integrated into the complete system. After installation and commissioning, IRD is regularly contracted to provide routine preventive and corrective maintenance.

IRD’s iTOLL System offers a variety of solutions for toll systems and can be modified to suit the specific needs of the client. The IRD iTOLL System is scalable and can be configured from a simple toll auditing system to a fully integrated advanced system.

Some of the key features of iTOLL are:

• A local database is installed on every Lane Subsystem with a centralized database on the Plaza Subsystem.

• An automated transfer operation exists to transfer the transaction and event records from the Lane computer to the Plaza computer. All databases are automatically synchronized whenever the Ethernet network is available between the computers.

• Two methods are used to transfer configuration information from the plaza computer to the lane computer. One is a daily scheduled automated update while the second is an administrator requested update.

• The lanes are able to function independently from the plaza should any communication failure occur.

• The system is capable of detecting if a vehicle passes in a lane even if the lane is closed and the system generates an event for this occurrence.

• The system provides the ability to purge, backup, and restore data in addition to removing historical years.

• The security of the system is based on validating the toll operator’s User ID and password. The User ID controls the access rights to toll system operation. The system also supports, as a minimum, the following access rights groups: Administrator, Maintenance, and Supervisor.

• The system supports up to 99 vehicle classes and has an administrator configurable rate associated with each class. The system automatically retrieves the configured rate when the operator selects a class.

The system has the ability to enable or disable the following:

• Receipt printing for a payment method

• Open/Close Cash drawer for a payment method

• Automatic printing of event records on the plaza’s printer

The system is designed to run in the Microsoft Windows XP Professional operating system environment.

The system supports multiple languages as supported by the Microsoft Windows OS Environment.

The iTOLL System is a post-classification system. A post-classification system requires the operator to enter the vehicle classification for fare calculation. The system automatically determines the vehicle classification as the vehicle is leaving the toll booth and generates a discrepancy event if the operator entered vehicle classification does not match the automatically generated vehicle classification. If desired, the discrepancy can be resolved by the operator supervisor by visual inspection of the captured video clip.
