Date of Award: July 2000
Date of Completion: May 2001
Location: Near the city of Bharuch, in the state of Gujarat.
Project Description: In 2001, IRD supplied, integrated and provided installation for one (1), 12 lane post- classification toll audit system. This is a real time toll collection and audit system with flexibility for future upgrades such as smart card payment and video surveillance. The system has high processing speed to ensure fast and smooth flow of traffic at the toll location. The project includes the supply and integration of all lane equipment such as classification sensors, fare display, barriers, traffic signals with the lane controller, and a plaza computer system. This system also includes software for generation of comprehensive and detailed Java reports.
The system is similar in design, functionality and operation as that provided for the Mumbai Toll System, with two significant changes. First, an additional class was required to differentiate between trucks and light commercial vehicles (LCV). Secondly, the system was designed to allow for the easy integration of light curtain in the future. When this feature is added, it will be used to enhance vehicle separation for classification. The primary function of the system is for the collection of toll fares. The secondary function is to audit the toll operators. This will be done in two ways. Firstly, all transactions that occur will be stored on the system. Secondly, the current actions of the operators and summary information will be available for supervisors to view at the plaza. Some of this information will be available in real time, other in printable reports.
