Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation’s Weigh Station at Thompson in Northern Manitoba is controlled by a remote operator via computer at the Headingley Weigh Station in Southern Manitoba. No on-site personnel are required for operation of the RCWS (Remote Controlled Weigh Station).
The system monitors commercial vehicle traffic on the highways adjacent to the inspection station, records vehicle data and displays information on each vehicle. The display includes an indication of those trucks that may be in violation of limits. When the vehicles report to the inspection station, the remote scale operator can view a real time video image of the vehicle as it enters the station, direct the vehicle through a set of sign messages, weigh the vehicle, inspect any documentation required on a video monitor, and speak with the driver through a voice communications link.Back to Projects
