Nova Scotia Mainline Weigh Station

Project Description:

IRD has worked with the Province of Nova Scotia to implement several mainline Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) systems throughout the province. The systems are complete design-build-maintain turnkey High Speed WIM (HSWIM) systems.

The Nova Scotia systems utilize IRD’s Single Load Cell (SLC) WIM System combined with the iSINC® WIM Electronics for superior accuracy.

Sorting systems weigh commercial vehicles on the mainline of the highway in motion and direct offending (over-weight) vehicles to exit ramps and weigh stations for additional processing. The sort decision for each vehicle is conveyed to the driver by means of message signs which are automatically activated as the driver passes through the system. Overheight detection systems are employed to detect and direct over-height vehicles to the nearby weigh stations for further measuring. Cameras are located adjacent to the roadway to capture a side view and license plate image of all trucks in the WIM lane.

IRD has supplied and installed Mainline WIM Systems at Enfield (HSWIM), Aulds Cove (HSWIM), Kelly Lake (HSWIM), and Amherst. All are currently under maintenance and service contracts.
