New Brunswick Mainline Weigh Station

Project Description:

IRD has worked with the Province of New Brunswick to deliver complete design-build-maintain turnkey Mainline WIM systems throughout the province. IRD provided all required elements of mainline high-speed WIM systems complete with tracking sensors and a video and license plate reader system for enforcement purposes at each site.  The systems utilize IRD’s Single Load Cell WIM System combined with the iSINC WIM Electronics for superior accuracy.

A typical mainline system sorts violating vehicles into the weigh station based on allowable weight limits for the Province of New Brunswick. The sorting decision is conveyed to the driver via the bilingual Changeable Message Signs controlled through the IRD lane control system (LCS).  The mainline WIM system triggers the enforcement control system (ECS) camera(s) to freeze an image of the violating vehicle and display it in a monitor in the weigh station. The system triggers the enforcement control system (ECS) camera(s) to freeze an image of the violating vehicle license plate as it crosses the mainline WIM sensors.  As the sort decision for the target vehicle is displayed at the CMS (Changeable Message Sign), a second camera captures a side image of the vehicle.  The images are displayed on the operator’s workstation in the weigh station.  Vehicles are tracked and if necessary they are instructed to pull up to the weigh station scale for further inspection; but if they choose to bypass contrary to instructions an alarm will sound in the scale house. The following New Brunswick Mainline WIM Sorters have been supplied and installed by IRD: On Route #2 west of Longs Creek Weigh Station; Deerwood, which is southeast of Fredericton, and Salisbury, which is southwest of Moncton; Eastbound lanes of Route #1 west of the intersection with Route 127; Eastbound lanes of Route #2 West of Salisbury.
