Alabama Weigh-In-Motion Systems

Project Description:

IRD has installed and maintained Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) Data Collection Systems at 4 sites including Cleburne and Montgomery. The sites are instrumented with IRD iSINC® and Intelligent Roadside Operations Computer (iROC) WIM electronics, Single Load Cell (SLC) WIM Scales and Bending Plate WIM Scales. The technology has also been combined with the State CVIEW/ Federal SAFER data to read license plates and USDOT numbers.

ALDOT has thirteen IRD Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) sites utilizing IRD-PAT Bending Plate® scales. These sites are used by two different agencies within the ALDOT and are operational 24 hours per day. Weight enforcement teams use the WIM sites in real time to screen for overweight trucks.  The Transportation Planning Division uses the traffic data generated by the systems for statistical analysis. The newest WIM site, near Montgomery, is instrumented with IRD iSINC® and iROC WIM electronics. The technology has been combined with the State CVIEW/ Federal SAFER data to read license plates and USDOT numbers. Alabama has one IRD port-of-entry Weigh Station near Cleburne. This site utilizes Bending Plate® scales for mainline screening and SLC scales for ramp screening with IRD iSINC® and iROC WIM electronics. The technology has been combined with the State CVIEW/ Federal SAFER data to read license plates and USDOT numbers.
