Speed Advisory System
Excessive speeds can be a contributor to serious accidents, particularly in areas with changing conditions such as sharp curves, reduced speed, congestion, crossing traffic, or reduced visibility. In some locations the loading of a commercial vehicle is a factor and the Truck Rollover Advisory System should be considered. At other sites, vehicle rollover is not a problem and a simpler system based on and classification is appropriate. The IRD speed advisory system uses non-intrusive sensors to determine the speed and type of a passing vehicle. If an excessive speed is detected for that particular category of vehicle, a warning sign is activated for that particular vehicle. A directed message to a specific vehicle is more effective than conventional signing communicating the message and getting the desired result - reduced speed.
