Mr. Harris has been a member and a fellow of the Institutes of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta, an Awarded of Outstanding Merit from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario and a Certificate of Merit from the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Mr. Harris commenced his career in public accountancy in Alberta with a predecessor firm of Deloitte and Touche LLP, serving the firm as a client service partner in the Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto offices, progressing into senior management positions in the National office in Toronto, and finally serving as the firm’s Executive Director and Chairman. Mr. Harris has served as an accounting and auditing standards consultant in China, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Palestine. In particular, from 1993 to 1996, Mr. Harris served in Beijing as the leader of the consulting team advising the Minister of Finance of the People’s Republic of China on a World Bank financed project. The objectives of the project were to establish a program of continuing professional education for the Chinese Certified Public Accountants and to set accounting standards that meet the needs of China’s socialist market economy and which, to the extent practicable, are in harmony with international accounting standards.

In 1998 Mr. Harris served in Jakarta, Indonesia as Accounting Specialist on a World Bank mission to review the progress at mid-term of a project designed to strengthen the accounting profession in Indonesia. In 2001 Mr. Harris returned to Jakarta to assist the World Bank with the preparation of the final impact study with respect to this project.

Mr. Harris sat on the Board of Sparta Capital Ltd. From March 2002 to January 2014, and presently sits on the Board of Directors of Firan Technology Group Corporation. Mr. Harris has held many Board governance positions including Bank of China (Canada), Canadian Academic Accounting Association (Toronto), Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (Toronto) and Circuit World Corporation; as well as many non-profit organizations.
